Clay Workshop: Photo Madness

Photo Workshop in the Town of Clay

The most intense photo experience of my life! But worthwhile so say the least!! The photograph above was taken in a swimming pool at a gym, I'll let you try to figure out how that shot was created.

Nikki Kahn was my team leader at the photo workshop and hearing words of encouragement from a fabulous photojournalist working at the Washington Post was definitely a boost in confidence!

This was the most adorable couple I met in Clay. They are both in their late 70's and have been living in Clay their whole lives. Harold was born and lived his entire life on the same road. His daughter now owns the home that he was born in.

I need to accept defeat in my battle against blogging

LaFayette AppleFest

The Apple Fest could not have occured on a better weekend. Mid October, leaves changing and 70 degree weather!! Even though the shot above looks posed, that was completely candid. She tried to do the same thing so I could get multiple takes, but of course the my first reflex was the best!

These two little girls were adorable and to see them playing on the craftsman's wooden sculptures was awesome from a photojournalist standpoint, if this ran in a paper it would make so much sense to illustrate the utility of his sculptures!

And without further ado the re-edit of my cheese farm lady: Heamour Farms.

Alas I return... I really need to get better at this!

So after a few weeks of my blog sitting idly by, it is in due time for a new post.

So far I have found some awesome things/events/people to photograph in the Syracuse area. Come a year ago I was discouraged with Syracuse, and looked at it as a place that I could not express a visual interest with good subject matter. Living here for a whole summer with the help of the Post Standard, I realized I was all wrong and I found some awesome subjects in this area.
I think I need to change the background of this blog site.

Shannon Nichols, an organic cheese farmer in Madison, NY, completely surprised me when I met her. She is so well educated and informed, that at times I feel like she is my mentor and I am her apprentice. Even though I am not learning how to make cheese, her insight in all levels of life keep me finding excuses to come back to her tranquil farm.

moe.down 9.

For a band I had never seen before / really ever listened to, the last minute decision to go to a festival in the band's honor, was the best I have made in years. I had never been to a music festival before, sadly my perceived "money issues" have kept me from any in the past. What I found out was this: a festival is code for massive party for the band, their friends, and the thousands of fans who join them.

My justification for the money spent on the festival was to take photos and I was more than pleasantly surprised to say the least. The night crowd instantly got my adrenalin pumping. It seemed as if the entire crowd was decked out in glow stick clothing. The light show the crowd created was almost as good as the light show on stage and defiantly had the crowd going "oo and aaa" just as much as the performance.

I tried my hardest to capture the immense intensity of
the scene: an entire ski slope filled with neon glowing lights of people and an amorphous crowd dancing to chaos lit up by the stage lights.

What a trip.
